A Discerning Community in the South Shore of Montreal, QC.
Recently, there has been a growing number of Chinese families coming to the metropolitan Montreal area. As this urban area continues to expand, more Chinese families
are finding their homes in Candiac and the surrounding region. However, there is a noticeable absence of church presence in the area.
Lisa Bai, a full time engineer and member of South Shore Emmanuel Alliance Church and Montreal Zion Alliance Church, has long had a vision for a church in this area. Over the last few years, she has identified the need for a church community for many Chinese families she has met in her neighbourhood, who had either left church during the pandemic or had been recently exploring faith. She began gathering regularly with a group of people in her home for a meal and Bible Study on Sunday afternoons, and eventually the group grew, celebrating several holidays together and running an outreach event at a local park.
The group has been blessed by experiencing God’s presence and guidance through this process of meeting and growing together. God continues to bring the right people to the group, both believers and those who are exploring faith again, or for the first time. Lisa and the group continue to trust God’s guidance, desiring to be obedient to His promptings. They are amazed by His faithfulness!
This group is being launched as South Shore Agape Discerning Community to continue this vision and explore where God might be leading the group. Lisa will coordinate gatherings, provide learning and listening opportunities, and communicate regularly with interested people and churches. Currently, the group is meeting in Lisa’s home, but as the group continues to quickly grow, there is a great need to rent a larger space.
South Shore Agape Discerning Community is supported by the
Saint Lawrence District, and several Chinese Alliance churches in the Montreal area.
