Position: Associate Pastor (with Youth and Young Adults Portfolio)
Purpose: The Associate Pastor of Youth & Young Adults exists to help Fort City Church be good news to the next generation by leading youth and young adults into the way of Jesus, developing leaders, contributing regularly to the preaching ministry, and serving as a trusted second-chair leader to the Lead Pastor.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Being with God (5%)
- Makes being with God their first priority and allows ministry to flow out of their relationship with Jesus. They cultivate a Spirit-filled life marked by prayer, Scripture, humility, repentance, rest, and dependence on God.
2. Youth Ministry Leadership (30%)
- Provides spiritual, relational, and strategic leadership for Fort City Youth. Develop a ministry culture where students are known, loved, discipled, and invited into the way of Jesus.
- This includes recruiting, training, equipping, and caring for youth leaders; overseeing youth gatherings, small groups, retreats, events, parent communication, safety policies, and volunteer systems; and building a clear discipleship pathway for students from Grade 7 through graduation.
3. Young Adults Ministry (20%)
- Provides pastoral leadership for young adults, helping them find meaningful belonging, spiritual formation, and opportunities to serve within Fort City Church.
- They develop rhythms of gathering, discipleship, leadership development, pastoral care, and mission for young adults, while helping bridge the gap between youth ministry and full participation in the wider church family.
4. Preaching and Sunday Leadership (20%)
- Serves as a regular member of the preaching team, preaching approximately 10–12 Sundays per year.
- Work with the Lead Pastor to prepare sermons that are biblically faithful, culturally aware, and aligned with Fort City’s mission, vision, and teaching direction.
- Provide regular Sunday leadership through hosting, prayer, communion, baptisms, pastoral moments, and other public ministry responsibilities.
5. Leadership Development and Churchwide Ministry (15%)
- Identifies, develops, and releases emerging leaders, especially among youth, young adults, and volunteers.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, ministry planning, evaluation, and churchwide initiatives.
- As a trusted second-chair leader, support the Lead Pastor, strengthen staff culture, and help carry the spiritual and organizational weight of Fort City Church.
6. Administration and Other Duties (10%)
- Manages ministry budgets, calendars, communication, volunteer screening, safety requirements, and other administrative needs related to the role.
- Remain informed and current with ministry trends, cultural realities, and best practices related to youth ministry, young adults, preaching, and pastoral leadership.
- To intentionally develop an understanding of ministry in the Canadian context, filtering that further to the unique context of Fort McMurray
Candidates must:
- Be in agreement with Fort City’s mission, values, and the Alliance Statement of Faith
- Have pastoral ministry experience • Have youth/young adult leadership experience
- Have preaching experience
- Have a proven ability to recruit and develop leaders
- Have strong communication and organizational skills
- Be Legally able to work in Canada
- Be legally eligible to work in Canada before being hired
- A theological foundation through theological education or personalized theological study
- Candidates must be licensed and ordained by the Western District and the Alliance Canada or willing to successfully pursue that.
